Baa-rmy about lambs? Come and see the newborns in Lambing Week

Tatton Park’s Farm is eagerly anticipating the patter of tiny hooves when lambing week starts at the beginning of April

Come down and share in the excitement!

Visitors could be lucky enough to see a lamb being born, while listening to the knowledgeable farm staff giving talks in the lambing shed. Lambing Week runs from Saturday 1 to Thursday 6 April and is one of the sure signs that Spring has sprung.

How many lambs are expected at the Farm this year?

Ellie Edwards, Tatton Park’s Farm Assistant, said,

“This is our favourite time of year and this April we are expecting 4 singles, 19 sets of twins and 1 set of triplets, so 45 lambs in total! It’s important to know how many lambs the ewes are expecting so that we can give the expectant ewes the correct care they require. We feed them on specialised ewe nuts full of all the nutrients, vitamins and minerals they need.”

Tatton Park’s dedicated Farm team work hard throughout the winter to synchronise the ewes to lamb roughly simultaneously. In the spring, when the lambing time comes, they work around the clock to help deliver the lambs safely.

Ellie Edwards added,

“I enjoy lambing time and love being in the sheep shed at night making sure all the lambs get the best possible start to life.”
