Callanish Visitor Centre, a story to be told

Visit the world famous, iconic and mysterious Callanish Standing Stones, in the Isle of Lewis. One of the best preserved stone circles in Europe, they date back to 3000BC and no matter the weather or however many visitors are present, these ancient stones have an enigmatic, magical quality that never fails to move.

The true story of Calanais is lost to time but its legacy lives on, drawing people from around the world. In this, their original purpose continues, as visitors pay homage to our ancestors and their hidden history. Whatever inspired their construction, all agree that the experience of visiting the Standing Stones of Calanais (the Gaelic version of Callanish) is not one to be missed.

Set within 200 metres of the magnificent Callanish Standing Stones, a warm welcome at the Calanais Visitor Centre awaits you. The centre offers a cafe and shop with stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, providing you with a perfect setting to sit back, relax and enjoy a coffee while taking in the breathtaking views. The cafe holds 50 covers, with additional marquee and outdoor seating providing another 50.
