Regional coach firm Lucketts Travel Group has underpinned its position as one of the region’s leading businesses by winning a top award.
The firm was named Large Business of the Year by respected daily newspaper The News, based in Portsmouth, at its prestigious Business Excellence Awards.
Lucketts Travel Group’s joint managing directors Ian and Steve Luckett picked up the award in front of a sell-out audience of business leaders and dignitaries at a glittering ceremony at Portsmouth Guildhall. The company, which has its headquarters in Fareham, was praised by the Business Excellence Awards judges for its financial results, increases in staff numbers and its investment in training, all while maintaining its ethos as a family-run firm.
Since 2010/11 Lucketts Travel Group’s turnover has increased 56 per cent, from £12.8m in that financial year to a forecast £20m for 2013/14. Thanks to new key contracts for Lucketts that have contributed to that increase, head count has risen by almost 45 per cent in the same period, from 207 in 2010/11 to almost 300 working across the business in Fareham, Southampton and Worthing currently.
After winning the Large Business of the Year award Lucketts will go on to the regional Johnston Press Southern Business Awards, which are held in Brighton in the Autumn. Ian said: “We could not be more proud of the awards because we have been working very hard to invest in the quality of our service, but also on investing in our staff and ensuring our business is expanding and moving in the right direction.“The next few years are going to be very exciting for Lucketts Travel Group as we embark on our ambitious growth and investment programme while also ensuring all our staff receive industry-leading training.
“We would like to thank the Business Excellence Awards judges for recognising our hard work so far, and we look forward to going on to the Johnston Press Southern Business Awards, where we will once again be contesting Large Business of the Year category.”
