Employees of Reading Buses who don’t qualify for a free flu vaccine under the NHS are being offered one paid for by the company.

Reading Buses say the aim is to help protect employees from the flu virus which will be circulating this winter and paying the relatively small price of the flu vaccine is a much better choice all round.

Every employee under the age of 50 has been emailed by the company to establish whether they would like a vaccine. The vaccine will be delivered by Boots using a voucher to book online.

HR Director Caroline Anscombe said: “Given the increased likelihood of flu this winter as fewer people will have built up natural immunity to it during the Covid-19 pandemic, a free vaccine will be paid for by the company.

“This is not only helping our employees and their families, but demonstrating that the company also cares about its customers. Having a bout of flu is not fun.

“Whilst similarities are often drawn between lorry and bus driving due to the common element of driving a large vehicle, we believe there are some very big differences that make life in the bus industry much more attractive.

The free flu vaccine is just one of the ways in which we look after our people who are at the heart of what we do at Reading Buses.”
