Happy and Healthy HeARTS at Fleetwood Market

Leading up to this year’s Tram Sunday and Spare Parts festival on Sunday 16 July, Fleetwood Market is hosting a number of exciting arts performances and activities.

The idea is to make the venue a fun, happy and healthy market for traders and shoppers alike. Linking into the Healthier Fleetwood initiative and also being an important strand of the festivals’ access and inclusion programme, arts and creativity is good for the soul and we’d like you to take part.

Linda Copeland will be the artist in residence joining us every Saturday from 17 June encouraging participants to be creative at all ages. Linda is developing an arts installation which involves decorating a crowd of life sized standing statues. Almost twenty local groups and schools have received their figure and once complete the ‘market crowd’ will be shown at the venue and weather permitting, around the town.

Every Thursday afternoon between 2pm and 4pm starting from 15 June (excluding 6 July), come and sing along with the Fylde Ukulele Network. A great way to bop whilst you shop! Mouth-watering afternoon teas will also be available at the market café so you can take full advantage of the entertainment at your leisure.

Local musician Mike Fairclough will be bringing his own brand of folk on Saturday 17 June between 10am and 12pm, and on other days – keep an eye out for the notices at the market.

There is an ongoing “Arts Area” available to have a go at art. We’ll provide lots of paper, templates, crayons and pencils for all the family to use. Especially good for those rainy days in town.

We are also hoping to have creative writing classes, and salsa demonstrations.

On Tram Sunday the market will be buzzing with activity. Internationally acclaimed BMX stunt rider Matti Hemmings will be performing on the outdoor performance area at the market, the fantastically funny Bicycle Ballet and the daring and skilful dance group Etta Ermini are in attendance; plus lots of walkabout street theatre acts and musicians.

There is still time, if you want to get involved in providing creative activities, please contact Chris Wyatt, at chris.wyatt@wyre.gov.uk.

Fleetwood Market is open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9am – 4.30pm all year round PLUS Bank Holidays and Tram Sunday.
