The Historic Dockyard Chatham, a Coach Friendly Attraction! Karen Tiley (CPT) and Olivia Horner (CHDT)

With the creation of our award winning building* Command of the Oceans, group visits to The Historic Dockyard Chatham just got even better! We are proud to announce that we have been awarded Coach Friendly status by the Confederation of Passenger Transport UK, becoming the only Kent attraction to hold this prestigious title!

CPT UK only award this status to attractions and locations across the country that understand the needs of coach companies and their passengers and offer the best facilities, access and information for coach drivers. We are delighted to be recognised and rewarded for our commitment to ensuring our groups experience The Historic Dockyard and its rich history and culture.

Our impressive new visitor facilities not only include a wonderful restaurant that can cater exclusively for group lunches, but a new shopping experience, four new immersive galleries, and free coach parking, with dedicated drop-off and collection points close to the visitor entrance.

Visits can be tailored to each group’s requirements by working with our dedicated group sales department, who are experts in planning your day. Itineraries can include guided visits of the site, either walking or on-board your own coach, with fantastic knowledgeable tour guides, allowing your group to discover maritime history through buildings, architecture, ships and people.

Our popular Call the Midwife experiences are also available for groups; a costumed midwife will take your group around areas which have been used as locations for many of the scenes in the popular TV series. Combine this with an exclusive chance to have afternoon tea in Commissioner’s House, which was also used as a 1950’s style restaurant in an episode from series two.

With many more group opportunities available, such as Crash out on Cavalier, where young explorers can sleep in real ship bunks on HMS Cavalier to experience what life was like on-board, to packages for language schools to offer a rich resource for students hoping to discover more about our history and culture or merely to brush up on their language skills, The Historic Dockyard Chatham, is fully equipped to cater for all your group’s needs. Don’t forget you can also book tickets for our Salute to the ‘40s event for Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th September at a discounted group rate!

*Winner of RIBA South East Award 2017, RIBA South East Conservation Award 2017, RIBA South East Building of the Year 2017, Medway Design and Regeneration Awards (Best Conservation and Architecture Award and The Greatest Regeneration Impact in Medway).
