Join in the St George’s Day fun at Romford Market

Don’t miss the chance to join in the St George’s Day festivities, enjoy delicious hot food, and pick up a bargain at Romford’s historic street market this month.

With a host of festive treats and activities on offer, there will be something for everyone. On Saturday 19 April from 11.30am, visitors will be treated to a range of entertainment in honour of St George’s Day, including the Royal British Legion Band, Hornchurch Drum and Trumpet Corps Band, circus performers, free face painting for children and there will be a giant inflatable slide for kids too.

With more than 150 regular stalls there three times a week, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8.30am to 4.30pm, and on Saturdays from 8.30am to 5pm, the outdoor market is in the heart of the town centre. And why not take advantage of the free coach parking nearby.

Visitors will find a great choice of cafes, bakeries, pubs and restaurants alongside the shops running the whole length of the Market, and can enjoy shopping at popular high street stores in Romford’s four main shopping centres: The Liberty, The Mercury Mall, Romford Shopping Hall and The Brewery.

Romford Market started life as a sheep market more than 750 years ago, after King Henry III gave instructions for the town to have a market every Wednesday. A 13th century rule that no other market can be set up within a day’s sheep drive (about six miles) from Romford still exists to this day.
