New Group Cruise: Kittywake Launches in Wigan Sandi and Steve Carrington of Kittywake Cruises at Trencherfield Mill about to board the first group cruise

A brand new cruise service for groups of visitors was launched in Lancashire this week.

Kittywake Canal Cruises, based at the iconic Wigan Pier on the Leeds to Liverpool Canal, officially unveiled their new cruise product for the UK travel industry during an inaugural trip on Monday 6th June.

Working with UK travel trade specialists Steve Reed Tourism Ltd from Hampshire, coach and tour operators and group travel organisers from around the UK were in attendance and enjoyed a special two hour showcase cruise. An event which demonstrated how the new service can be of appeal to groups. Run by the Carrington family, the new service offers the choice of two traditional wide beam canal barges.

Sandi Carrington of Kittywake Cruises explains: ‘We have operated a successful  party boat and private hire cruise service for a number of years but we discovered that many groups too have shown an interest in taking a cruise with us.

‘So we have extended our welcome to coach parties, groups visiting Lancashire and to those organisations that would like to have a very memorable tour of the historic canal with regard to its fascinating past, scenic views and nature too,’ says Sandi.

‘And the sister vessel of Kittywake – Elleswake – will be fully disabled compliant and can easily take a full coach of visitors.’

Amongst the attendees sampling the group cruise were representatives from a number of organisations including Tyrers Coaches of Chorley, Great Days Travel from Altringham in Greater Manchester, Chester- Le- Track Rail Trips from County Durham, Wigan Council and NHS Retirement from Derbyshire. They also took in a number of other attractions during their visit to Wigan – calling into Tatton Park Estate in Cheshire; staying and having dinner at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Leigh; having a show-round of the Leigh Sports Stadium; doing some shopping at Ena Mill Retail in Atherton and – just nearby – visiting the Atherton Guide Dog Training School for a demonstration of dog training.
