Settle’s Historic Tuesday Market

In these days of out of town and internet shopping, a thriving traditional market is a welcome sight. We have a number of long standing traders who bring with them an expertise in the products they sell as well as having long established strong customer relations

Nestling between the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Trough of Bowland, Settle has had a Market Charter since 1248 and every Tuesday holds an outdoor Market. With produce as diverse as locally sourced meat and artisan bread, fresh fruit and veg, eggs and a fish stall collecting from Fleetwood early that morning, Settle Market is exciting and attractive. An extensive cheese stall and an occasional olive stand provide a continental feel to the market.

Offering a wide variety of stalls the market also boasts, amongst others, ladies and gents clothing and footwear, Italian leather bags as well as pictures and a framing service. Attractively priced CDs, stationery, plants, flowers and watch repairs.  New traders are always welcome.

Settle is home to the famous Settle Carlisle Railway and has the impressive Ribblehead Viaduct. The town is easily accessed from the A65 – a major route connecting West Yorkshire to the Lake District. Travelling through the rolling dales with stunning views including Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent, Settle has much to offer for either a day trip or a longer stay.

The bustling Tuesday market is the focus of the picturesque Market Place which is surrounded by historic Grade ll listed buildings, including the Town Hall and The Shambles. Both offer exclusive independent retail shops, art galleries and cafes. In fact our small Market Town also hosts a number of other listed buildings and monuments of historic interest.

All set against a back drop of the awe inspiring Castlebergh Rock, from whose summit there are stunning views over the entire town. Free coach parking at the Whitefriars car park located 100 yards from the market place and 2 other car parks within easy level walking distance provide ample parking and toilet facilities.

A warm welcome is extended to all travelers. Group Organisers and Coach Operators should contact the Market Superintendent Marjorie Tindale or alternatively Rebecca Hill on:-
