West Somerset Railway offers steam train outings for ‘Turkey & Tinsel’ Breaks Pre Christmas 2015

The West Somerset Railway has already planned its ‘Sherry and Mince Pie Specials’ for the end of 2015 and will be pleased to hear from any Coach or Holiday Companies who are, in turn devising their programme of ‘Turkey & Tinsel’ breaks in South West England.

The trains offer a 20 mile round trip over the section of the line between Bishops Lydeard (four miles from Taunton and six miles from Junction 25 on the M5) to Williton and back. En route the trains pass through the Quantock Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the wayside stations of Crowcombe Heathfield and Stogumber.

They are hauled by steam locomotives which also heat the coaching stock dating from the 1950s and 60s, one of which is a licensed buffet car. Although the train will not stop at Crowcombe Heathfield, some travellers may be interested to learn that the station has featured in The Beatles film ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ and later ‘The Land Girls.’

The dates of operation of the trains are November 29th, December 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th with departures from Bishops Lydeard at 10.10, 12.20 and 14.35 (there is no 14.35 departure on December 12th). Cost is £13.50 per passenger.

To book up a group of ‘Turkey & Tinsel’ travellers or any other group who may enjoy a 80-90 minute trip to savour the joys of bygone travel in the lead up to the Festivities, please contact:-
