Daish’s Holidays, an independent family-owned UK coach holiday group, has witnessed a heartwarming trend in its reservations, with an almost 15 per cent increase in bookings from solo travellers during the Christmas period compared to the same period in 2022, suggesting that single travellers are seeking warmth, comfort and companionship at this festive time of year rather than spend the time alone.

Loneliness can be more prevalent during the festive period. According to research by Age UK, almost 1.5 million over-65s say that they usually feel lonelier at Christmas than at any other time of the year*. Daish’s Holidays operates 12 UK hotels, 11 located in traditional British seaside locations, and are popular among the more mature market. The boost in bookings for its coach or self-drive breaks across its portfolio of UK hotels at this time of year backs Age UK’s research, highlighting that the older generation looks to seek ways to reduce the sense of loneliness at Christmas.

Paul Harper, commercial director at Daish’s Holidays, said: “We specialise in providing affordable UK coach breaks to our collection of hotels and these are incredibly popular with over-65s. We’re pleased to see that solo travellers are choosing to spend Christmas with us. It’s incredibly fulfilling to provide a welcoming space for people seeking companionship and festive cheer with fellow holidaymakers during this special time of the year. When staying with us, unless specifically requested not to, we seat solo travellers together for breakfast and dinner so they are able to meet other solo travellers.

“We pride ourselves on providing the traditional British holiday break, which offers a full schedule of activities tailored to the interests of our guests. From festive-themed activities and half or full-board dining options to day tour excursions and evening entertainment, Daish’s Holidays ensures a memorable and enjoyable stay for all.”

Daish’s Holidays is making a further 20 single rooms available across its hotels for breaks taken between 29th December and 2nd January to accommodate demand and enable solo travellers to welcome in the New Year with others.
