Organisers of the 2024 Spalding Flower Parade, which will be held on the 11 and 12 May, have just released the final running order for the parade, and it’s promising to be the biggest in the history of the parade.

Organiser Steve Timewell said, “Since the parade started in the 50s, there has never been a parade like it. This is certainly the biggest parade in Spalding’s history.”

The line-up, published on www.spaldingflowerparade.org.uk, includes 59 features, including floats, simulated trailers, bands, and local community groups. “There are over 500 people in the parade, all in costumes based on this year’s theme of movie titles,” Steve said.

Steve is well known in the town as the one who brought back the parade last year after a ten-year absence. The event drew crowds to the town in excess of 200,000 for the day.

This year will be very different as there will also be a nighttime illuminated display on the Castle Sports ground, followed by all the floats on display on Sunday. As if that wasn’t enough, the sports ground will be packed with over 60 craft and charity stalls as well as many family activities and entertainment.

“I genuinely want to keep Spalding on the map,” Steve said. These community events are vital to the town’s economy and, of course, to preserving the heritage that we were once so proud of.”

Live TV broadcasts on the BBC and most local radio stations will cover the parade.

“The only thing I can’t guarantee is the weather,” Steve added. However, I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Regardless of the weather, it will be an amazing day. We have 58 coaches booked in from as far away as Devon, Cornwall, and Newcastle. It’s time to show what Spalding can do.”

MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES

The Parade would like to invite film and radio crews to visit as preparations heat up.

They use a large farm in Spalding, where more than 20 floats are currently being built by over 40 volunteers. Why not come and see them, meet the volunteers and show the world what real community spirit looks like?
