National Memorial Arboretum Illuminated Arboretum
The ever-popular Illuminated Arboretum returns to the Arboretum between 7 December – 23 December (inclusive).
This unique and inspiring light installation encompasses a 1.2-mile accessible route around the Arboretum grounds and is designed to encourage exploration and discovery. A kaleidoscope of colour, the route weaves around many memorials and trees, cleverly using light and sound to tell the Arboretum’s stories. From poignant moments where visitors are encouraged to reflect and remember to interactive elements that encourage childlike wonder. With magical photo opportunities such as the 50-metre Tunnel of Light and the breathtaking installation Beacons, which lights up the iconic Armed Forces Memorial, it is an evening to remember. Groups of ten or more enjoy a substantial discount against standard pricing, with tickets priced at £8.50 for children and £18.00 for adults.

The Arboretum’s annual Christmas Lunches with a Swing return by popular demand, with toe-tapping entertainment from the Antonio Socci Jive and Swing Band on Saturday 9, Tuesday 12 and Thursday 14 December. This 90-minute performance features a variety of Christmas classics performed in a jazz and swing style along with Christmas Carols everyone knows and loves. Tickets include a glass of fizz to enjoy upon arrival, a delicious three course lunch with tea, coffee and mince pies and are priced at £35 per person. Groups can combine Christmas Lunches with a Swing and Illuminated Arboretum for a spectacular festive day out.
Throughout Winter, the Arboretum remains open for group visits closing only on Christmas Day. During these colder months, it’s the perfect opportunity to take advantage of our indoor activities. The Arboretum is the only place in the UK to hold an Act of Remembrance at 11:00 every day, except Christmas Day. The Act of Remembrance takes place in the Millennium Chapel, and begins with a short excerpt from Nimrod followed by a pre-recorded explanation of the origins of the Two Minutes’ Silence from Jeremy Paxman, before observing the Silence as a group.
The history of the Arboretum is fascinating. Having opened just over 20 years ago, the 150-acres of grounds have grown to become a tranquil and beautiful space where everyone can explore, discover and remember. Groups can also book an extended fascinating speaker talk, where they’ll hear more about the incredible stories of bravery, heroism and valour behind the memorials. From the comfort of the Founders’ Room, group visitors will receive a presentation from an expert guide for 45 minutes with a 15-minute Q&A. Prices start at £3 per person and external talks to a venue of your choosing are also available from £25 + mileage costs.
Within the Remembrance Centre are thought-provoking permanent and temporary exhibitions including Landscapes of Life which explains the history of Remembrance, what Remembrance means to others and how people have remembered since time began.
